2020 VIRTUAL EVENT

July 11 – 31, 2020

Our goal is to ensure that the Eagle River Tri (ERT) continues as Alaska’s favorite triathlon for the hundreds of racers who participate each year. The Coronavirus pandemic has taken the community and world by surprise and made us all adapt the ways in which we live each day. When this all started, the planning for the 2020 Eagle River Tri was well underway for the annual June event. We are thrilled to be going virtual this year and adding expanded race options with this new virtual format. We sincerely hope that those registered will stay in the race and that new registrants will join the fun.

WHAT IS A VIRTUAL TRIATHLON?

This event is a way for you to swim (or if you do not want to swim you can do the duathlon or form a team for the triathlon), bike and run whenever and wherever it works for you between July 11 – 31, 2020. You can choose to do any of the event legs indoors or outdoors, or a combination of both. Don’t want to do them all in one day? No problem, you just need to complete all of the legs between the race dates in July. Complete a sprint, olympic or 70.3 distance, or do the duathlon, or mix it up a bit with a SUP or a kayak combined with a bike and run. There are so many options to choose from!

WHY VIRTUAL?

This offers us the opportunity to bring everyone together for one of Alaska’s favorite triathlons while keeping the social distancing that our current situation requires.

We are offering the following options to participants registered prior to May 1, 2020:

  • Go Virtual! Roll me over to this year’s new event

Move your current ERT registration to the virtual event. Continue your training and join the 2020 Virtual ERT. We are committed to making this year the best it can be with:

  • Multiple race distances to choose from: Sprint, Olympic, or 70.3 distance triathlon, duathlon, mix-it-up, and kid’s tri and duathlon options. In fact, you can choose to race any or all of them for the same fee.

  • Enhanced swag package.

  • One-of-a-kind incentives with prizes throughout the event – something for everyone to participate in!

  • Deals from event sponsors.

  • A 25% discount to the 2021 Eagle River Triathlon. *

Once you have submitted the online form to roll you over to the virtual event you will be emailed a link to complete a new registration. Sorry, however the waiver is different, so we have too! Depending on when you submitted the form your unique code will come in the form of a link. It will come from RunSignUp on either Thursday (5/14), Monday (5/18), or Saturday (5/23). You must fill out the form below by 5/22 and your unique code to register must be used by 5/27.

  • 75% Roll-over to 2021

Not interested in a virtual triathlon. We understand that too. Roll-over 75% your 2020 registration to the 2021 event.

  • Your race fees go to support:

    • ABATE’s Christmas in July Toy Run for kid’s in Anchorage. Thank you!

    • Continued support of our local businesses that support our races.

    • Already committed 2020 event expenses.

Once you have submitted the online form to elect to roll you over to 2021, we have you on the list. We will send you a unique code in the form of a link on February 1, 2021. This unique code must be used by February 28, 2021.

  • Refund

We would love to do more; however, most races resources are determined, committed and purchased long before the starting bell goes off. We have done everything we can to cancel what commitments we could in advance. We are also waiving the traditional ‘no refund’ policy and are happy to refund 40% of your paid registration fee. We are unable to refund/waive administration fees or credit card processing fees.

USAT will reach out to each of you to determine how you would like your paid one-day license to be used. You will be given the following choices:

    • Athletes can opt to not transfer their one-day license and receive a $15.00 gift card for ROKA gear.

    • Athletes can upgrade their one-day license purchase to an annual membership for just $25.00.

  • Early Bib Number Purchase: Registrants who purchased the early bib number option will be refunded the full amount minus administration fees (all credit card processing/administration fees are non-refundable).

FAQs

How long will the virtual event run?

You can do any leg of your event at any time starting July 11 – July 31, 2020.

Do I have to do all my events at one time or in order?

No, you can spread all of your events out on any day (or days) that grabs you. In fact, you can do each leg 2, 3, 4 times and turn in your best time.

How do I print my bib and finisher's certificate?

Check out the Bibs, Results, Finisher's Certificate instructions for the full details.

How do I enter/upload my results?

You can submit your times by manually posting your times (yep, it’s the honor system), or, you also upload your results utilizing your Garmin, Fitbit and more. Check out the Bibs, Results, Finisher's Certificate instructions for the full details.

How long do I have to upload results?

All results must be posted no later than July 31, 2020.

Do I need to submit a time at all?

No, you do not need to if you do not want to.

When are the results final?

All results are final on July 31, 2020.

What is the cost?

  • Individual - $70.00

  • Teams - $115.00

  • Kids - $15.00

It’s all about the SWAG right?

You betcha! See race outline for a list of what’s included.

How do I get my swag?

We will be hosting two swag pick-ups:

July 8, 2020

4:30 - 6:00 pm

Trek Bicycle Store Anchorage

530 East Benson Boulevard

July 9, 2020

4:30 - 6:00 pm

Chain Reaction Cycles

1148 Huffman Road

Why can I not get a full refund?

Well over 50% of the funds from events are often spent weeks or months before the event occurs. If the ERT were to refund everyone the event may not survive. This is why most triathlons and running events have a strict ‘no refund’ policy; however, given the unusual circumstances we are pleased to offer several options for registrants to choose from. See refund options above for detail of what we are providing.

Will there be finish rankings?

Yes, there will be full results and ranking with your peers. Because there is no way to verify everyone’s results and you will be running on different courses on different days, the finish rankings are not official and no finish awards will be given. Results will also not be submitted to USAT for ranking.

Will there be awards?

There will be no finish awards but we are working closely with several sponsors and will be supporting local businesses to provide prizes for a variety of fun challenges throughout the event. Every participant will receive a medals and finisher’s certificate.

When do I need to decide on rolling over or refund my registration to 2021?
Athletes have until May 22, 2020 to make the choice to rollover or receive a refund for their 2020 registration. See complete details above.

What happens after I go to my registration and select a deferral?
Once you have submitted the form to roll over to the virtual event you will be emailed a link to complete a new registration. Sorry, however the waiver is different, so we have too!! Depending on when you submitted the form your unique code will come in the form of a link. It will come from RunSignUp on either Thursday (5/14), Monday (5/18), or Saturday (5/23). You must fill out the deferral form by 5/22 and your unique code to register must be used by 5/27.

Why isn’t the race postponed until later in 2020?
We discussed this option, at length.  We realize that no one has a crystal ball, but we have yet to find an expert who has said that this pandemic will pass by a certain date. In order to avoid disappointing our athletes twice we have decided to go virtual.

What about the Kids Tri?
The Kids Tri has gone virtual as well. They also qualify for the same registration choices as the adult race.

What happens to my one-day USAT membership?
Please see section above, ‘other fees paid’.

Why is there a virtual triathlon when there are no pools open?

We have not been notified when the pools will be open; however, we realize that many enjoy swimming in one of our beautiful lakes as well. It’s your choice – a lake or pool (when they open). Or forego the swim altogether and go for one (or all) of the duathlons or mix-it-up events.

What distance can I do?
You choose any of distances listed above or as many as you would like.

Is this event timed?  If so, how does that work?
Yes, the event will be timed. We are working on a couple of options. You will need to submit your workout file or manual input for tracking. Instructions will be sent as we get closer to the start of the event.
